The C series Transmissions from Ford, was and still is an exceptional unit. Originally designed for 6 cylinder engines, it was a 1st choice from ford to manage the 289 Windsor in 1965 plus in Mustangs. In 1970 the transmission was revised and could then cope with higher performance with the 302 engine and was readily used in falcons with V8 engines, here in Australia. The aftermarket has done wonders for this unit and can be built to manage 1000HP, some say this is unrealistic; I however am prepared to do so up to the 800HP level. When you hit high power levels in excess of 600hp, one new area to consider is to roller your unit, Torrington bearings will make a difference. A crucial element is a 6 pinion planet gear the stock one would be spat out after 450hp+. Rollerising can be done for $500. Add an alloy pan to build fluid levels and keep trans cooler at the same time build structural integrity. Also servos, and input shafts.
